I AGREE IF...
THERE IS REALLY ONLY ONE ISSUE
Abortion discussions can get ugly really fast. Discussions often become more about each other than the actual topic…pro-lifers accuse their opponents of hating babies, pro-choicers accuse their opponent of hating women…none of which creates a productive dialogue about life. Here is a simple tactic to keep the main thing the main thing.
If a pre-born child is NOT a human being…
We might agree that:
abortion is a personal and private matter that shouldn’t be restricted
laws restricting abortion are unjust
pro-lifers should not impose their views on others
everyone but the woman should stay out of their decision
We are NOT anti-choice.
In fact, we are fierce advocates for women’s rights, including her ability to make informed decisions such as choosing her own:
healthcare provider
husband
career
political affiliations
religion
The abortion issue isn’t about forcing morality, it’s not about privacy, it’s not about who hates women and who loves them. It’s about answering one question:
What ARE the pre-born?
Both science and philosophy support a case for life.
Science proves the pre-born child is a distinct, living, and whole human being. You didn’t come from an embryo; you once were an embryo. Everything that make you uniquely you existed at the moment of conception.
Philosophy argues there is no relevant difference between the embryo you once were and the person you are today that would justify killing you at an earlier stage of development.
So the question that needs to be answered is simply:
Is it wrong to intentionally kill an innocent human being?
People, no matter their gender or religion have an equal right to weigh in on that question. A tolerant society will welcome a free exchange of ideas and judge arguments according to their merits
